Aim
Support school by helping children realise they all have value
Opening
Use children dressed in school kit for football, netball etc as illustration of being chosen, making us feel special. Responses from children about this theme.
What about the rest of us, maybe we are not picked out or especially good at something?
God made each one of us and we each have our own special part to play in His world. Watch and see what happens next.
Illustration
Using a small large-piece jigsaw (or floor mat with interlocking pieces). Arrange top and base on tray (or table) ; give out 2 or 3 remaining pieces (withhold one piece, hidden from kids). Invite kids to put in their piece.
Almost complete … but spoilt without missing piece. Produce it, complete: explain this is a picture of how important it is that we all realise we are special and can play our part.
Bible Story
Scene mimed alongside Bible story: Children brought to Jesus so that He could pray for them.
Jesus and friends move across, Jesus sits, they talk, as children approach the friends shoo them off, Jesus calls them to come.
Isaiah 49:15,16
God never forgets us, He made us, we are special – 'engraved on the palms of His hands.'
Invite children to draw their own name on palm of own hand.
