Aim
Help children value the Bible and know that God speaks to us
Outline
This is the first assembly of a series focussing on the Bible, a wooden Cross and a candle regularly used by the school at assemblies. These are placed beforehand around the hall and brought to the front as assembly begins.
Props – Place other books around the room as well: atlas, poetry, history, story, song books.Each book will have a ½ A4 paper inside it, saying 'atlas', 'poetry' etc
Opening
Children bring Bible, candle, Cross forward as usual and recite their meaning.
Ask what books children like, draw attention to the other books around the room. Explain lots all sorts of books make a library.
Lift up and show BIG 'BIBLE' (cardboard boxes made into cover with large white card sheets inside). On inside card 'page' are Bible book names relating to the sort of books around the room.
(Exodus=atlas; psalms=poetry;Genesis=story book;Kings=history; Song of Solomon=song book.)
Children who have a book beside them bring them out, one by one.
Team member responsible for that book responds, shows A4 paper, relates this to the appropriate book inside the big card 'Bible', making short comment. Each time this is stuck alongside the name in the open 'Bible'.
God speaks to people, in the Bible and now. Lots of stories of people…

Noah's story from 'Palmview Bible' (shortened) with actions/sounds for children to participate: (TIMBER!; chopping, sawing, hammering; waiting, raindrops, wind, HOORAH!)
Reflection
God was speaking to Noah and speaks to us to them to help us do right things, not bad things, because He loves us.
