Aim
To show the importance of following the rules.
Welcome and Intro
Today we are going to think about Going for Gold, winning the race, but not at any cost!
“Would any children like to join us to take part in some races?” (Get 6 children if possible)
Races
Person 1 – Competitor, Person 2 – referee, Person 3 – Cheerleader and cheat catcher!
Egg and spoon race in which Person 1 is found to have cheated by sticking her egg to the spoon
Sack race in which Person 1 is found to have cheated by cutting foot holes in bottom of her sack.
Relay race in which Person 1 is found to be cheating by using an extra long baton.
(During races Person 3 is to 'cheer lead' the children and ask them to watch out for anyone cheating)
Reflection
Well, wasn't Person 1 naughty? Fancy trying to cheat just so that they could win.
Some people refer to life as the 'Rat Race' and the gold they go for is a big house, flashy car, better job, and more exotic holidays. But to get these things they are sometimes prepared to cheat others, to bend or even break the rules of life.
But what are the rules of life? Well, ACTS2 follow the teaching of the bible and in the bible we are given rules for life. Does anybody know what these rules are?
The rules can be found in the bible in the book of Matthew and we have them here, cut and jumbled up. Who would like to come and unjumble them?
Get children to make 2 sentences:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind
Jesus said you must love your neighbour as you love yourself.
Those are the 'rules' for the Rat Race, of life that Jesus set out. And if you love others as much as you love yourself you won't cheat them in order to get ahead.
In the book of Psalms found in the bible this is what it says: The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.
God’s rules are the gold we are going for.
Song
Prayer
Lord thank you for giving us rules to help us through life, help us to run a straight an honest race, help us to remember that it is the taking part that is important, and not seek to win by cheating. Amen.
