Aim

Preparing for Easter.

Introduction

Children to help with the signs, 2 to each card.

Interaction between team members on the play of the above words, bringing the thought of giving something up.

Story

Last month we left Mary, Joseph and Jesus (ask the children where): Egypt.

Does anyone remember what they would be called escaping to a foreign country: Refugees.

Eventually God told Joseph it was safe to come back to Israel and they settled in Nazareth, where later on Jesus became a carpenter like Joseph. When He was 30 years old He began His ministry. In preparation for this He was baptised in the River Jordan by John the Baptist and then went into the wilderness for 40 days where He ate nothing.

Now something else was 40 days what was it? It's in the cards.

That's right, LENT. This is the time we are in at the moment and it takes us right up to Easter. Many people give something up they really like for Lent, mostly chocolate.

Song

Praise God from whom all blessings flow

Reflection

Include in your reflection about Lent being a preparation for Easter and also mention that Easter is about Jesus dying on the cross to give us eternal life.

Prayer

Prayer to close.
