Aim

Show Jesus putting this 'golden rule' into action

Introduction

Hello, enjoyed holidays? Did you go to any parties?

Party game

Hunt the Thimble
[emphasise keeping 'rules' of game]

Explain the rules. Hide thimble at front of hall in view of children.

2 child volunteers who do not see hiding place: school to help them know if 'warmer' or not.

Bible story John 2:1-11

Now a story about when Jesus went to a party.
Jesus changes water to wine- John 2:1-11 (adapted from Lion Story Bible): while the story is told the water will be changed to 'wine' in the second jug and a glass offered to drink.

Reflection

What Jesus did with the water was a miracle, something outside the ordinary rules of life. (add that what they saw was not!)

Why did Jesus do it?

Because he wanted to help his friends at the party. Helping other people is a good way for us to be. Remember this golden rule?

'Do to others what you would like them to do to you'.

Pause for thought.

(possibly refer to rules children have just made in their classes)

Song

'Doodly-do'
(key line is 'do unto others as you'd want them to do to you')
