Aim

How we can bring peace

Introduction

Ask the children what story they heard in our last assembly (Joseph being sold by his brothers) Ask if any of them know what happened to Joseph after he was sold.

Tease out the following:

  • Sold to Potiphar
  • Asked to do something that was wrong by Potiphar’s wife
  • Put in prison because of lies told about him
  • King has a dream about fat and skinny cows
  • Joseph interprets and tells of good crops followed by famine
  • Joseph put in charge of managing food store

Explain that we will know pick up Joseph’s story mid way through the time of famine. Ask children to listen for the words 'The Brothers Cheered' and when they hear them cheer as loud as they can.

Genesis 42: 1-26

Read from The Lion Storyteller Bible

Reflection

Ask the children if what Joseph did was a good thing? Would it have been easier just to send his brothers away without any food?

Close picking up the following key points
* Christmas is coming when we often hear the words Peace on Earth
* That seems a really big thing to attempt. How can we bring peace on earth?
* Truth is we can’t but we can do what Joseph did and bring peace to our families, our friends and even those who have behaved badly towards us
