Aim
To help children in understanding importance of persevering.
Sketch – Trying a new skill
Two friends trying to learn something new: team members to skip with rope and juggle balls.
Children to call out: 'Don't give up!, Keep trying!'
Repeat action, better if possible.
Children: 'Well done!, Keep going!'
Story – Tale of William Wilberforce
William Wilberforce saw slavery wrong because Bible says each person is important to God.
William Wilberforce trying to get parliament bill to stop slavery for many years, big struggle but did not give up.
If something is important keep going … introduce word 'persevere' to children.
Bible Story
Zaccheus – Luke 19:1-10 (stepladder as prop)
Zaccheus is in crowd trying to see Jesus. Too small, can't see, runs to climb up tree. Amazing! Jesus speaks to him, it was worth trying so hard …
Reflection
Keep trying, but can't do things alone, ask God for help.
Prayer
Pray that TODAY God will help each one of us to persevere with just one thing that we find difficult.
