Aim

To help children to understand that there is one God who loves us and wants us to love one another.

Reading

Interactive – recap previous assemblies on attributes of God. When we are thinking about different religions in class we find that they have different views of who God is and what he is like. Remember that Christians believe that the only true God is unique because he wants us, above all, to have a relationship with him because he loves us.

Game

Game to learn John 3.16.

Children, four at a time, to front to hold up one word each – some picture words e.g. needle and thread for sew (so) and whole school read words out. Repeat until whole verse held up.

Sketches

Act out scenes of how not to show love:

  • Speaking beautifully – reading a poem, too busy speaking beautifully to listen to other team member
  • Very clever mathematician feels herself too intelligent to help team member with fractions homework
  • Team member angered by response to maths moans about how she is an unpleasant character

Actually this isn't the right way to feel or act towards others lets listen to what the bible says

Reading

Read 1 Corinthians 13 for children.

Prayer

Thank God for His love for us and ask Him to help us show love to others.

Song

Lord, Let your love shine through me

Recap
